The necklace worn by the designer herself, Azza Fahmy, at the preview

Azza Fahmy is the most notable Egyptian jewelry designer with authentic ethnic designs inspired by the Arab culture.  The new culture collection launched by the jeweler is based on Arabic proverbs, which are amongst the most meaningful proverbs I have encountered.  Picking from hundreds of proverbs must not have been an easy task but the team has managed to narrow them down to some of the most powerfully suggestive ones and then to top it all off, they designed stunning jewelry.  Below is a preview of the collection they had at their Zamalek office this afternoon.

This is a stunning cuff with an Arab proverb stating that “the only complete wealth is the wealth of the soul”.

Cuff Bracelet

Earrings that can be worn day and night have the Arab proverb stating that “if you share our ways, come stand with us today”.

Silver and Gold Earrings

This necklace is somehow classic yet unique and its proverb is one of my favorites, “to do well is to do without”.  We should all take a cue from that saying.

Oval Pendant Necklace with Diamonds

Some rings displayed from the new collection with the one facing head on saying “in good relationships, love lasts”.

Rings

This flower necklace’s stunning simplicity is almost as great as its saying “let the faith in your heart guide you”.

Flower Pendant Necklace

The ultimate piece of the collection is this bracelet.  The modernity mixed with the ethnic Azza Fahmy touch is outstanding and it even looks better on.  This is a MUST-HAVE!

Miriam Nazmy

Miriam Nazmy Jewelry is inspired by mixing cultures to reach oriental jewelry with a modern take. Every item can be passed through generations with a lasting feel of elegance, a true treasure.  This talented designer’s jewelry can be found in the jewelry collections of the likes of Rachel Zoe or Margherita Missoni or you could even find it in a museum.  Finally, we are proud to announce a jewelry designer parting from the ‘ein’ and ‘kaf’ and picking another oriental inspiration.

Below is a short interview with the designer and pictures of her collection.

What is the inspiration behind your collection?

I read a memorable novel called “The Kite Runner” that portrays a life of a beautiful country broken asunder, Afghanistan.  That is when I decided to know more about their art and culture, which was the core of my inspiration.

Who do you imagine wearing your jewelry?

Charlize Theron is one of the most young, popular, and appealing actresses of our time.  Picturing her wearing my jewelry would be an honor and a turning point in my designing career.

Where do you wish your collection is sold?

Harrods because not only is it one of the most famous high-end department stores in the world but also because it was owned by an Egyptian.  Selling my collection at Harrods would add a lot to the image of Egyptian designers abroad.

What should we expect next and how to do you plan to keep your collection innovative?

Being exposed to the latest fashion trends in various media channels helps me a lot in keeping my collection unique.  The most important thing to me as a designer is how to avoid imitating and to create something new that reflects my own character.

Important Note: The designer utilizes gold plated silver and the stones are semi-precious, specifically, agate.

My favorite Egyptian ready to wear designer, Dina Said whose line is called Nana’s Closet, has launched her spring 2010 collection! Available at Lalloushi in Zamalek, a new boutique, where you can find Italian brands mixed with Middle Eastern up & coming brands.

Below are my favorite two items in the collection.  The strong shouldered jacket is also available in cream.  I love the buttons in the back and trust me, the designer pays so much attention to details.  In my opinion, she is on another level.  The two-toned jumpsuit is hip, fabulous, and sexy.  The colors scream spring trends and the cut and materials are perfect for spring.
